We used a Garmin GPS with the Garmin TOPO Chile Deluxe electronic map(TOPO Chile Deluxe sold for 80 USD). The topographical profile, rivers, lakes, road and towns are precisely mapped. Only smaller streams, smaller lagoons and some trails are partly incorrecly placed on the this electronic map. The Garmin TOPO Chile Deluxe is more precise than the TOPO Andes (see below) and has more details but covers only Chile and is good for section 1 to 16 only.  Garmin now offers also a electronic topographical map that covers all Chile, Argentina and Bolivia and with this all Patagonia(TOPO Andes sold for 100 USD). The price is just slightly higher price than Chile only. This map is probably If you are planning to hike the currently best choise for this entire trail and future trail extensions to the south that will incorporate larger sections on Argentine soilthen the TOPO Andes map is the suitable choise.
