Public roads with transit traffic were avoided wherever possible. Paved roads were the last choice of all.
In the Chilean River- and Lake-District the regular trail incorporates one river and several lakes that can be floated down or crossed with a [[Packraft|http://www.wikiexplora.com/index.php/Greater_Patagonian_Trail#Trail_Types packraft]]. If not carrying such a light-weight inflatable boat all these water sections can be bypassed on food, by ferry or private boat transfers.
