Hello Jan,
My name is Graham Hall, I hope this is the most up to date way to communicate with you (I have searched for your email) but I am going to give it a try. I haven't seen other people put their emails so I guess here goes it. I am very interested in hiking the GPT between December and February of 2025. I am beginning my planning process, and I would love your insight. I will say, this is somewhat new to me, not in the outdoor sense, but in perspective. I have worked as a backcountry guide leading canoe trips for several years, but thru-hiking is newer for me at least in the packing sense -although I have been doing some smaller trips. I am fluent in spanish and confident in my abilities in the backcountry, specifically in outfitting and planning so I am excited about getting my hands on the most up to date maps and trip notes to plan my route. I also am looking to plan some pit stops to try and attract my other guide friends to join me for sections, but I just need to get to planning. I also would just love to get some more advice. I will say, pack rafting sounds insanely cool (from my canoe experience) but I also know the dangers that come with solo water travel, especially in such windy conditions. I would love to discuss this further, if you have the time. Either way, I hope this gets to you, wikiexplora do me right!
I hope we speak soon,
Graham
Hi Jan,
hi Jan, my name is Hugues Rialan, thanks for an amazing job creating and keeping alive the GPT, I have never seen anything like that. My friend and I would like to hike some sections of the GPT in January February 24. It's something we've been considering for a couple of years, now seems to be a good moment in our lives, we feel ready for this beautiful adventure. We would appreciate that you share the track files with us, to further refine our preparation but ultimately nothing is possible without them. Many thanks in advance. We will share our experience in wikiexplora. My hiking partner, who is fluent in Spanish, and I (my spanish is a bit more rusty but not that bad) are thinking starting at GPT10, and will not go down to Terra del Fuego as we expect the weather to become more difficult and we want to hike light. For the same reason we are unlikely to packraft, but are still hesitating on that one. I also applied to the FB group you setup. Our idea is to spend about a month and a half on the GPT, looking for the most scenic places and hoping to get to meet and spend some time with arrieros.
Thanks again for everything.
Hugues
