Different The KMZ file formats are provide for reviewing and editing the trail displayed on a computer with Google Earth (KML/MKZ) and for uploading the trails satellite map above is optimized to provide a handheld GPS devise (GPX)good overview but does not include any waypoints and shows only some of the optional routes. All these file format contain Therefore the same geographic information, mainly tracks files below should be downloaded and waypoints but have advantages and disadvantages when using with used if you actually plan to hike the different applicationsentire Greater Patagonian Trail. If you are interested in one or a few sections only then see the section overview below where you can download the trail files for individual sections.
The KML and KMZ Different file format is optimal formats are provide for display and editing reviewing the trail on a computer with Google Earth. In example tracks (KML/MKZ) and waypoints can be organized in for uploading the trails to a folder structure what facilitates handling a large number of individual handheld GPS devise (GPX). All these file format contain the same geographic information - mainly tracks and waypoints. There is no significant difference between a KML - but have advantages and a KMZ file. A KMZ file is simply a compressed KML file. A KML or KMZ file cannot be uploaded directly to Garmin GPS but needs to be converted first into GPX disadvantages when using these fileformats with different applications.
When using The KML and KMZ file format is optimal for display and editing on a handheld GPS it of advantage to minimize the computer with Google Earth. In example tracks and waypoints can be organized in a folder structure what facilitates handling a large number of individual tracksand waypoints. There is no significant difference between a KML and a KMZ file. A KMZ file is simply a compressed KML file. Unfortunately a KML or KMZ file cannot be uploaded directly to Garmin GPS but needs to be converted first into GPX file.
When using a handheld GPS it is of advantage to minimize the number of individual tracks. The Garmin devise that I use (GPSMap 62) is in example unable to display more then 200 individual track. Therefore numerous individual tracks that are in line need to be joined to minimize the total number of individual tracks. This is currently not possible with a KML or KMZ file in Google Earth. But joining individual tracks can easily be done with a GPX file with the "Basecamp" software, that is provided free of charge by Garmin. Therefore different file format are provided below.
therefore these formats are used here. To upload this information to a GPS the GPS manufacturers software should be used, which might convert the geographic information in a different file format. Garmin in example uses the GPX file format. There is no significant difference between a KMZ file and a KML file. Both are equally suitable for display and editing in Google Earth.
The KMZ file displayed Reviewing and editing the trail on the satellite map above is optimized to provide a good overview but does not include any waypoints and shows only some of the optional routes. Therefore the KMZ file below should be downloaded and used if you actually plan to hike the entire Greater Patagonian Trail. If you are interested computer in one Google Earth: KML or a few sections only then see the section overview below where you can download KMZUploading the trail files for individual sections.to a handheld GPS: GMX
