A Different file formats are provide for reviewing and editing the trail on a computer with Google Earth (KML /MKZ) and for uploading the trails to a KMZ handheld GPS devise (GPX). All these file format contain the same geographic information, in example mainly tracks and waypointsbut have advantages and disadvantages when using with the different applications.   The KML and the KMZ file format is optimal for display and editing in on a computer with Google Earth, . In example tracks and waypoints can be organized in a folder structure what facilitates handling a large number of individual tracks and waypoints. There is no significant difference between a KML and a KMZ file. A KMZ file is simply a compressed KML file. A KML or KMZ file cannot be uploaded directly to Garmin GPS but needs to be converted first into GPX file.   When using a handheld GPS it of advantage to minimize the number of individual tracks.    therefore these formats are used here. To upload this information to a GPS the GPS manufacturers software should be used, which might convert the geographic information in a different file format. Garmin in example uses the GPX file format. There is no significant difference between a KMZ file and a KML file. A KMZ file is simply a compressed KML file. Both are equally suitable for display and editing in Google Earth.
