==Season 2025/26=='''2025-Dec-2 to 2025-Dec-7 / 6 days / Hiking / SOBO / RR / Emily & Kole''' Beautiful section - diversity of landscapes, lots of wildlife and wildflowers, and despite the length not overly difficult. Saw very few people. No issues with water, plentiful. Attractiveness 5/5, difficulty 3/5. Day 1 - * Roadwalked for 3km from Chile Chico before getting a hitch to X {35} [8.1/505]. * Gate at Settler {35} [8.9/539], unlocked. * Spoke with settler briefly at Puesto {35}[15.8/1075] - lovely guy. * Trail is CC ascent after puesto, but easy walking. Winds at top on plateau very strong. * Ford at Water {35}[23.9/1586] was mid-low thigh for Em (165cm), but Kole crossed 100m downstream on a snow ridge. * Camped across the stream to the west of Camp {35} [32.6/1300] - small hills offer some wind protection but still very exposed. Day 2 -* Followed the OSM route to the road to avoid multiple river crossings. * Hitched the final 3km of the roadwalk, but very few cars passing. * Paid online 11.400 CLP pp for park entry - office was open but no ranger present* Camped at Raleigh, Refugio {35} [61.7/856]. Several hikers were there when we arrived, but there’s a small sheltered space for 2 tents around 50m to the left after bridge along the OSM trail. Day 3 - * Fords after Valle Hermoso were all below knee height. * Watch for the turnoff back to trail at Ford start/end {35} [72.4/905] - there’s a marker of cairns and sticks. * Ford {35} [83.4/805] was mid-low thigh height for Em, but not overly strong. * Camped at -46.94070, -72.15596, just afterward. Below the destroyed refugio, look for a trail leading left. Spots are well sheltered and flat. Day 4 - * No ranger at Casa Piedra. * Water available at [112.3/1108], but difficult to collect. Better flow at Camp {35} [114.6/779]. * We camped here, below trail to the right. Spots aren’t perfectly level but very well sheltered. A more level spot to the left of trail before crossing the stream. Day 5 - * Horseflies in the morning drained our souls - not a bad idea to bring repellant or a head net.* Watch out for turnoff for RR at Laguna Adelita; easy to miss.* Camped at -47.20055, -72.46699 near the lake shore. Well sheltered and grass very soft. Day 6 - * Signed out at ranger station {35} [147.3/165] but rangers didn’t check our tickets. * No luck hitching into town but it’s an easy walk on paved road.* Arrived in Cochrane at midday. * Stayed at “Camping & Laundry Cochrane” next to the plaza. 7.000clp to camp or 10.000clp for a 4 bed shared dorm. Laundry for 5.000clp pp. Hot showers, kitchen, WiFi, close to supermarket for resupply.
