'''GPT35 / 2025 Dec 7-11 / NOBO / RR / variant R, Option 3, Option 3A, Option 3E & Option 2 / 5 days (2 half days)/ hiking // Bailey'''

General notes - incredibly beautiful section and quite diverse. Heaps of wildlife. We came across 7 other people walking the other direction. Fairly easy navigation. The high plateau was a highlight

Challenges - none to note

Costs - paid online for a parks pass - 11,400 CLP for foreigners. Walking out of cochrane I didn't pass the rangers hut. No one checked my pass. When I reached the second rangers hut they didn't ask to check, just shook my hand

Campsite Casa dePiedra, night 2 - 10,000 CLP cash

Difficulty - 3/5

Attractiveness - 5/5

Day 1

Started walking after 5 pm out of cochrane up to camp next to Laguna El Cangrejo. Taking variant R and option 3. Pretty steep climb

Camp 1

We camped at camp {35-03} [15.3/995] which was beautiful and protected from the wind by the lake. Mosquitos

Day 2

Today was the longest day. The passes were gorgeous. Took option 3A, good trail down onto option 3E and option 2, linking back onto the main route. No issues. The trail after this was pretty unmaintained but there was a trail. After Lago Gutierrez there were some animal cameras on the trail.

Camp 2

Reached Casa dePiedra camp at 8:30 pm, and paid 10,000 CLP. Hot showers, a place to eat inside away from the mosquitos.

Day 3

Crossed the fords, some were fast moving but nothing above mid thigh (194 cm). No navigation issues

Camp 3

Camp Raleigh [61.7/856]. A very beautiful campsite. There's tables and chairs. A cool looking bridge.

Day 4

Walked past the rangers hut in the morning, there's starlink here. Briefly talked to the ranger, he didn't ask about my parks pass. Walking on the road had some beautiful views. Walking up over the high plateau was incredible. Cross country navigation felt relaxed. Hundreds of guanacos up here. Came across a gaucho herding sheep

Camp 4

Camped at camp [14.1923] just as the minor road begins. This was incredibly windy.

Day 5

Walked down to the main road and got picked up by a local archaeologist

Stayed in chile chico for 20,000 CLP per person at Campamento Ñandú Hostel. Really laid back vibe, just opened today.

Ferry to Puerto Ibáñez, tried booking a ferry for this afternoon but it's not running because of high winds. Below is the website but I couldn't purchase a ticket through it. The office is located here
