→Season 2025/26: Edit Isa and Sander
==Season 2025/26==
* "' 2026-02-20 until 2026-02-26 / 7 days / Hiking / SOBO / RR + Sendero Rio Chacabuco / Sander and Isa'" Well marked, easy and really diverse section with a lot of wildlife, we've seen many guanacos, a skunk and a huemul and definitely puma presence (lots of poop and paws, especially on the Sendero Rio Chacabuco). This Sendero Rio Chacabuco is reopened with 3 small, fancy cabins/refugios along the way for shelter with dry toilets. Some of the trail didn't show on our apps, probably not yet on OSM. Sander put a picture of a physical map on FB, the trail is like a walk in the park. The map indicates camping is only allowed next to Pampa Guanaco and Puma refugios. In all refugios it says it's not allowed to sleep inside, but rangers later told us that in case of bad weather you can. During the entire hike we only met one other couple and some more people on the payed camping sites. All fords were very doable, never higher than mid thigh (I'm 165 cm). Lastly, we didn’t see any flamingos on the plateau and also on the wiki it is often reported that they fly away. These big birds use huge amounts of energy to fly so it’s generally advised to stay 50 to 100 meters away. Day 1. Payed 10k CLP for a taxi until the paved road ends, seemed a bit expensive. Planned our night on the plateau with low winds (according to Windy app) and after strong winds on the plateau we enjoyed a quiet, windless night at previously suggested camp spot (S 46.71314°, W 071.88570°). Day 2. Walked until the road next to Rio Jeinemeni using a combination of GPT, OSM and game trails, which seemed more straightforward. Had to wait a while, but right before the road closed (only open between 9:00 and 18:00) got a ride until the ranger and Camp El Silencio. Payed park entrance (11.4k CLP p.p.) through their Starlink, camping is free. Day 3. Until official camp Valle Hermosa. Nice place with rain sheltered tables. Saw the huemul here at dawn walking across the river! Day 4. Crossed many fords in the morning, made for slow walking and ice cold feet, but also an experience. Walked until unofficial but nicely sheltered camp site (S 46.94083°, W 072.15601°). Day 5. To Casa Piedra (10k CLP p.p.) with hot shower, wifi and tables with rooftop for outside cooking with a view. Met some guys who just did the Sendero Rio Chacabuco who gave us their physical map. Day 6. To Puma refugio, really beautiful peaceful hike through grassland along the river Chacabuco. Day 7. Last day with a detour to Laguna Cisnes following OSM, but when we arrived at the lake there were marks that this path actually is closed. We got this information confirmed at the visitors center at the Valle Chacabuco Administration Area. Here we also enjoyed the museum (although mostly the more specific part about the history of the park) and hitchhiked to Cochrane (super nice, comfortable Hostal Casa Raíces, 40k CLP for 2 people per night, +56988840002). * ''' GPT35/2026-02-20 to 2026-02-25/5,5 days/ SOBO/RR/Denis, Robert '''
