==Season 2025/26==
'''GPT33 / 2025 Dec 12-16 / NOBO / RR / 5 days/ hiking // Bailey & Ed'''
General notes - another incredibly beautiful section. Had to take a few slow days approaching the pass because of high winds and snow.
Challenges - crossing snow boulder fields at the pass
Costs - paid 70,000 CLP for two people to be dropped off just before bridge [129.3/304], saving about 27 km of road walking. +56982463160
Difficulty - 4/5
Attractiveness - 5/5
Day 1
Caught the ferry from Chile chico, took about three hours leaving at 8 am. We went to the tourist office to ask about a taxi. Mostly on minor roads to camp
Camp 1
Nice campground, wind sheltered with water [116.3/239]
Day 2
Pretty good trail, connects to a minor road. Fords okay
Camp 2
Another nice campground, wind sheltered with water [82.8/479]
Day 3.
Short day mostly on a minor road. Fords okay
Camp 3
Camped next to ford [69.8/634] because the next campsite was noted without water. This campsite was nice, wind sheltered with water. We met Julio returning back after a days work. A lot of deadfall here though
Day 4
Started with walking in the river bed. The snow line started at the campground next to the lake. Previous trip report was useful mentioning stay right of the waterfall on the ascent to the pass. We tried staying in the forest and off the boulder field as long as we could. The snow was waist deep and very soft in areas. Mostly used rocks after the forest to ascend. On the descent we met col from salt lake city also hiking the GPT this season.
Camp 4
Camped at [32.0/700], a lot of cow poo around, but sheltered. Water across the fence
Day 5
Walked down the road to hitch. There's a bus shelter here to sit in and wait, protected from the wind. Waited an hour
