WEe skipped the Peninsula Florida. The most crucial part of this section is the boat transfer from Villa O'Higgins (Puerto Bahamóndez) to the opposite shore of Lago O'Higgins (Candelario Mancilla).

BOAT CROSSING:

There are two companies in Villa O'Higgins that transport tourists across the lake – Amigo Patagon (office here: -48.4615871, -72.5605656) and Las Ruedas (office here: -48.4640142, -72.5582920). We initially communicated with Amigo Patagon, but due to poor communication and unprofessionalism, we ended up purchasing tickets from Las Ruedas (55,000 CLP if bought online, 60,000 CLP at the office).

When purchasing a ticket, you are required to fill out a form, after which you will receive a document called "Salvo Conducto" via email. You will need this document at the border control when exiting Chile.

!!! Although the boat usually runs three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday), weather conditions can play a significant role. We arrived in Villa O'Higgins on Friday (March 14), missed the Saturday boat due to waiting for a package, and the next crossing was postponed until the following Friday due to strong winds.

We recommend starting the hike as soon as possible, as a large number of people travel by boat, and border control can take several hours, if you're on the end of the queue.

A well-maintained road, mostly through forest, leads to the Argentine border. After the first climb, the majestic Fitz Roy appears between the trees for the first time. Once in Argentina, the trail becomes narrower, with many boggy sections and small stream crossings.

Challenges: Patience

Bivouacking: Camping is only allowed in designated areas. The first official campsite is near the Argentine border control at Laguna del Desierto (-48.9996549, -72.8379285).

Water: There is plenty of water after Candelario Mancilla, with numerous small streams crossing the route.

Resupply: There are several shops in Villa O'Higgins. We chose the very well-stocked Supermercado Cordillera (-48.4668002, -72.5610119) for buying additional supplies. Directly across the street, there is a ferreteria where you can buy a gas cartrige.
There is no resupply on the end of this section.
