→Season 2024/25: Our hike
==Season 2024/25==
'''2025-FEB-25 to 2025-MAR-1 / 4.5 days / Hiking / SOBO / west traverse RR/ Nimrod & Tamar
'''
We took a ferry from Villa O'higgins to Bahia Pescado and hiked the west traverse NOBO.
There are 2 ferry companies taking tourists from Villa O'higgins to Candelario Mancilla and return.
Both wanted 55k clp pp.
To Bahia Pescado the price was different - Amigo Patagon asked for 70k and Ruedas de la Patagonia asked for 55k (same price for Mancilla).
We went with the pricy one because the other had seats only at noon and we had only 4 sunny days.
The ferries depart at 7:30. A ride from town to the port is included in the price and departs at 7:00.
It took about 1:30 hours.
Misael helped holding the ferry because there is no port.
We had mate and stayed with Misael for a couple of hours. We would recommend planning to stay in Bahia Pescado at least half a day if you have time.
He has wifi and you can contact him ahead. He also have a room for guests if you would like to spend the night there.
The trail's description in the manual was pretty accurate and we don't have much to say about it.
Hiking NOBO was nice because from Bahia Pescado the trail becomes better as you head north until the trailhead, and we think that CC[53.9/41.1+1.7] is easier going up.
We loved the scenery on the west side. The turquise lake with Fitzroy and the glaciers were spectacular.
All fords were easy and there were no snow on the passes.
