The trail file contains files contain the geographic information of the trail and can be opened in Google Earth and or uplodaded to most current GPS devices. See the [[#Trail Files for GPS and Google Earth]] for an introduction to the two available file formats (KMZ and GPX) and a table with the trail files for download.
All trail files contain two basic elements: Tracks and Waypoints.
The KMZ file displayed on Tracks are continious lines that represent an actual part of the satellite map above is optimized to provide a good overview but does not include waypoints and detailed information for hikingroute. Therefore the KMZ file below should be downloaded and used if you actually plan to hike Tracks have a section or the entire Greater Patagonian Trail.  Greater Patagonian Trail with waypoints, options start and alternatives: [[Media:GPT01-18.kmz| GPT01-18.kmz]]  The file is organized in folders and subfolders for a better overview in particular when viewing and organizing the trail on a computer. There is one folder for each section and each section contains a subfolder for waypoints and a subfolder for tracksan end point.
