'''2025-03-07 to 2025-03-12 / 6 days / Hiking / SOBO / RR / Tyson'''
Hit some incredible weather. A really beautiful and diverse section. No trouble with water or crossings.
Day 1: [RR] Got a lift out of town to X {35} [8.1/505], and started hiking ~10am. Beautiful views as you ascend the plateau looking back at Lago General Carrera. Tons of guanacos. The ground on the walk up to and in places on top of the plateau has a lot of clay in it. So if it has rained recently, be ready for mud. I stayed near Camp {35} [32.6//1300]. I checked out MiamZelt’s recommended spot, but it lacked the view so I compromised by camping across the stream just west from the Camp. There are some small hills there that provide a bit of protection from west winds.
Day 2: [RR] Continued the valley descent. Hit the road going to the Jinemeini entrance to the park by noon. No hitch so I had to walk the whole thing which was annoying and took a good bit longer than expected. Tried to pay entrance fees but the system was down. Had Raleigh campground to myself that evening. Some nice fishing in Lago Verde there.
Day 3: [RR] Over the pass to Valley Hermosa. Really beautiful. Peaked in at the campsite there, which is nice and well-protected. Crossings in the valley were ankle deep mostly, so easy. There are easy markers for the first ⅔ of the valley, but you need to watch for the turn south. I overshot it and got stuck in a small but thorny bushwhack. Clear trail up and over the pass, crossings on the other side all easy. The trail cuts through a couple of boggy terraces. Camped at OSM Free Unofficial Campsite (-46.98401, -72.16014). Water is easily available at a stream down trail just past the camp spots
Day 4: [RR] Took the RR across the suspension bridge, and down to Casa Piedra. Spoke to the ranger there who said I should just pay at the end in Tamango. On to Sendero 7 Lagunas. Really enjoyed this section. The pass [111.6/1126] kicked my ass more than I expected. But saw two huemules on the other side so worth it. Camped at Laguna Guagua / OSM “Plano sitio para acampar.” Beautiful lake, gorgeous sunset, though the prime camp spot was taken by some other hikers so I ended up in the woods, just NE of there. There are some flat spots tucked away there.
Day 5: [RR] Watch for the RR turnoff at Laguna Adelita. You’re on a dirt road there that continues and becomes Option N. To stick to the RR turn at an easy to miss trail. Camped at OSM ‘Free official camp site” (-47.20052, -72.46710)
Day 6: [RR] Tamango Reserve, another nice section here, but lots of day hikers. The outlet to Rio Cochrane has some nice coves for throwing a line in. Finally was able to pay entrance fees at the Tamango office (11,700). No hitch to Cochrane so had to road walk. Made it town by ~2pm
