11 MAR-2026 to 17 MAR-2026 / 6 days due to weather delay/ hiking / NOBO / RR Ben, Stephanie After going to Baños Chanchu Ko east of Trapa Trapa, we stayed the night with José, who runs the new shop in Trapa Trapa. On the road from Canchu Ko we saw 2 signs for Camping. José offered for us to camp in his yard but then insisted we stay inside.  Next day we hiked up over the pass. There is no camping until about 7 km up the trail. Several great interchanges with Pehuenche families along the way. Day 2 was an easy route to follow, with many great camping options once you cross Rio de los Pinos.  Day 3: cross country easy to follow and we made it 2/3 of the way up to the pass beside Volcán Antuco. But the winds were absolutely horrific and a huge amount of rain was predicted so we ended up backtracking back down to near the road to find sheltered camping. There is a fairly good place by the lone Araucaria tree nearest the road — and phenomenal shelter just west of the tree in the bushes above the river. Over the next 24 hours, it rained about 10 centímetros, blew so ferociously 2 tent poles broke, and the river rose 2/3 of a meter and washed out a bridge on the road.  We waited out that storm and then a 2nd smaller but colder storm the next day. The following day we realized that a lot of snow had fallen up at the pass, there was no visibility, and we didn’t have enough food to wait any longer.  So, we hiked around Antuco on the road — which had almost no traffic. This had it’s own intensity, hiking 18 km into strong headwinds, passing the individual monuments to the 40 soldiers who died doing the exact same trek in April 2004. Near the closed ski área, 2 workers picked us up and ended up giving us a ride all the way to Los Ángeles (which we needed due to our broken tent poles.) In Los Ángeles, we stayed at Mi Casa Hostal (40,000 for 2 with breakfast). Met some dudes at Camping Los Peucos, gifted me a fishing rod (8kmdoes anyone have info on permit situations?). Battled off Explored Option 7 along Rio Polcura, definitely some cows per bushwhacking along the usualtrail, but there is a trail, just really overgrown. Beautiful river.Lots of animals in valley, the climb 7B is okayjust minor road.At Laguna BarcoChristmas in Abanico. Stayed at camping 1km out of town. 10k CLP for night, the descent puts you on someone’s property, barbed wired all around, but you can just barely unhook gate to get outhave fire, and put backbathrooms. Shop was open, ate 5 hotdogs.Caught Call (+56971304096) for a ride out of Abanico, or wherever. Very nice guy, charges 1k CLP per Kilometer. Was 9k to Los Angelesstart of trailhead, even waited while I paid CONAF. Climb up Sendero Sería Velluda was calm, but CC was kinda tough. Bad winds at pass, lost my sunscreen and phone charger broke so gonna reoutfitt!rest of day. Opted to follow Valley Route to avoid bad winds, very beautiful. Rejoined RR for final descent, though was kinda sketchy at points. Nothing too bad.Here in Trapa Trapa, nothing is open unfortunately.

On TrapaTrapa I walk down to termas Nitrao to camp. The only family there told me that someone came earlier to collect payment (6000 CLP). Some camps spots with benches, tables , fireplace and a pit toilet, next to the termas.
