''' GPT30/2026-02-06 to 2026-02-09/3,5 days/ SOBO/RR-Variant E/Denis, Robert '''
We resupplied in Villa Amengual for the whole section, but at 45 km in El Gate there is solid shop with everything what you would need, but it seemed to us little bit pricey.
Section follows road up to 46 km, until here it is easy going some with some possible camping spot here and there. At 52 km we met Arriero and had to ask for permission to be there, but all good.
Then at 72 km it finally gets interesting. Where straight line starts there is no trail at all, but here S 45.232038° W 72.028243° is a solid trail which can take you bit higher up to S 45.234580° W 72.033888°, here we lost the trail and started CC in forest. But it is pretty fine no high bushes it is just pretty steep so it takes some time. And at elevation 1250 we got out of forest and followed the treeless ridge.
Way down is almost without any bushes, but from 81-83 it is getting a bit overgrown with young pine trees.
At first we didn’t take the Variant E but RR leaded us to many fences and houses so half way we took our way to connect to Carretera Austral.
Around 107 km young guys stopped us that we are at the private land, and we should go back and hitchhike, because other people won’t be happy with us and that it is almost impossible to get later through the forest.
But at the end they let us go after showing them our map and plan.
CC and Trail from 110-119 wasn’t perfect but durable with some high grass, fallen trees, fences and many cows.
We left the trail on 119 km and went straight to the Coyhaique due to incoming storm.
Camping spots:
S 45.002937° W 72.016715° hidden spot below road without water
S 45.204242° W 71.872563° hidden spot above the road without water
S 45.312297° W 72.076038° nice spot next to the river with nice rock to jump into the river, don’t camp under tree something sticky falls down, whole tent was sticky
No water issues.
Attractiveness 2/5
Difficulty 3/5

*'''2025-FEB-20 to 2025-FEB-23 / 3,5 days / Hiking / SOBO / RR+OH (var. A, 01) / Ivan, Jakub, Daniel'''
This is an easy section, mostly following a primary route (PR), but it was complicated by Variant 01. This variant crosses a military area that is not accessible, which caused us significant issues. More details below.
We started the section at the Carretera Austral at its intersection with road X-510. In El Gato, due to rain, strong wind and limited time, we decided to follow Variant A and 01. From waypoint X {30H-01} [36.9/621], we turned onto Variant 01, which leads through pastures, the ground was waterlogged at some places. The route here is mostly CC, occasionally following cattle trails and sometimes MR.
Regimiento Las Bandurrias is actually a military zone where entry is strictly prohibited! Although there were no fences, gates, or warning signs, we were detained and taken to a police cell in Coyhaique. Avoid this area at all costs.
CHALLENGES:
Climbing over fences
Waterlogged terrain
Military area restrictions
BIVOUACING:
For a peaceful night's sleep, we had to climb over fences and find shelter among trees. We camped at:
-45.009962, -72.132111
-45.158074, -71.860542
-45.3576230, -71.8754410
WATER:
Water was generally plentiful, except after leaving the PR at a point X {30H-01} [36.9/621], where finding water on the cattle pastures became more difficult. The Ford {30H-01} [60.8/641] was completely dry.
RESUPPLY:
Near Mina El Toqui [km 22.7]: A small shop with basic supplies, good for emergency resupply.
El Gato [km 45.5]: A well-stocked minimarket.
Nireguao: Several stores, but half of them were closed on Saturday afternoon, including the only two restaurants.

FEV-12: Repos Coyhaique.
