Good resupply option in Palena.
No water issues for the whole section.

First day was easy going mostly on minor road and last kilometers on trail.
After kilometer 20 you need to ford Rio Azul few times but water level was up to my knee. We slept at the end of the valley at 32km. We forgot caffe filter there, so if you find it it’s yours.Nice spot next to the river before going uphill.

CC is not difficult, it is basically slalom between small bushes but always with the good option to avoid them. At elevation 860m we joined really nice trail leading us to the pass. Nice camping spot at km 36 with water anywhere on the meadow or as well in the pass nice small lake with tiny island in the middle and amazing views from the both spots. Way down from the pass is fine on trail with few fallen trees but nothing crazy.

Then from 40 km as we got down to lake it started. From here to 76 km when we forded Rio Claro it was very challenging. Don’t expect more than 200 meters of trail without fallen trees. And expect slower pace something around 2-2,5km/hour. At least trail is almost everywhere visible. So it is easier to navigate.

On this stretch there are some better and worse parts.
40-47km, 52-54km many fallen trees you need to climb over or go around.
68-76km fallen trees, mud and trail goes everywhere but not straight where you would expect. ( this part took us almost 4 hours)

After fording river at 76km it is easy going trail and there are many nice camping spots in forest for next 7km. We missed the RR so we stayed on variant D and then variant E seemed to be much easier and we had enough of fallen trees.

Difficulty 5/5
Attractiveness 3/5

A beautifully wild and forested section, full of fallen tree crossings but also offering some stunning viewpoints.

At coordinates (-43.7153061, -71.8151759), the MR ended at a fence, beyond which bush bashing seemed likely. Instead, we followed a small path uphill to a road (end of variant A). As the steep ascent began, we stayed on the trail marked in OSM maps. The trail occasionally faded, but it wasn't that hard CC. Just below the pass, we found Chaura berries.

The descent toward Lago Palena includes some sections where we had to deal with some fallen trees. However, the real challenge comes in the stretch between Lake [43.2/948] (Puntilla Lopez) and Refuge ? [45.7/974], where fallen trees become a major obstacle. From this point, the number of fallen trees blocking the trail decreases significantly but remains enough to haunt your dreams at night. The houses near Refuge, Park Ranger [52.1/947] appear abandoned.

The river crossings near the lake at km [62-62.8] were passable with dry feet due to low water levels. From Camp [68/809], the trail becomes very muddy. A simple trail starts after the crossing at [75.6/375]. We followed the path until we reached variant D, which was a longer but nice detour. The crossing at [85/402] was also dry-foot passable. The trail leading from X [90.2/543] appeared overgrown, so we opted for variant E.

CHALLENGES:
Fallen trees blocking the trail
Muddy path sections

BIVOUACKING:
Before the pass ascent [37.1/1367], there are plenty of tent spots near the creek.
Several camping spots are available near the lake.
We spent the night at the lake’s inlet, just past the crossing [43.0/943].
The next night, we stayed at Camp [68/809], which offers multiple tent spots and a fire pit.

WATER:
Water is plentiful throughout the section.

RESUPPLY:
We arrived in Lago Verde in the evening. The only store open on Sunday until 21:00 was at coordinates (-44.2385274, -71.8502104), offering a decent selection of supplies. Another supermarket at (-44.2408180, -71.8494809) reportedly opens at 10:30 on weekdays.
