2025-12-27 / 1,5 days / Packrafting / NOBO / GPT 74P Rio Yelcho / Anh

The water level is neither high nor low. I had the usual strong headwind at noon, which makes paddling hardly worthwhile, so I decided to let the river drift slowly, which is also fun.
The first rapid was a bit confusing, so I decided to portage, but the second rapid is no problem. There were some waves in between, but they are manageable.
I camped at Camp {74P} [33.1/10], which is sandy but very nice.

Arriving in Chaiten by ferry, the kind description of the manual for Rio yelcho convinced me to try it out. I started at around 13 as the bus left Chaiten at 12. I faced headwinds the whole time with the first 7km being characterized also by mid-heavy rain. The river was safe, wide, forgiving, there is most of the time wide time for maneuver to avoid the present logs in the water. I got out at 19:30 in the beach of Chaiten at perfectly low tide, which meant a 3km hike to the town as I after realized I stopped to early. Overall a pleasant experience.
