Summary
In various parts the trail branches into diffent routes giving you the choise to paddle with with a packraft over pristine lakes and float down on calm meandering rivers, you can opt to get up to the summit on several of the landmark volcanos next to the trail and you can venture through particular isolated backcountry if the regular route is not challanging enough for you.  Without any doubt substantially longer and more challenging hikes have been done on this continent. In the chapter [[#Other notable Long Distance Trails and Hikes|Other notable Long Distance Trails and Hikes]] some remarkable adventures and epic hikes in this region are listed. The objective of this trail is not to top any of these achievements archievements but to provide a well-documented and well-hikeable walkable trail for experienced hikers. To the knowledge of the author the Greater Patagonian Trail is the first and currently only long distance hiking trail in South America that is continuous, documented in detail, passes the 500 mile or 800 km mark and largely avoids roads with transit traffic.
